Don Baas, PT
Don graduated from Fresno State University in 1990 and has been providing patient care, practice management and clinical development since. Don is taking an administrative and leadership role for Baas Physical Therapy and is the CEO and co-developer/co-owner of Western Physical Therapy, Inc., a multi-practice company with offices from the Sacramento area north of Redding, of which Baas Physical Therapy belongs. Don is a cycling enthusiast, an avid fisherman, and enjoys hiking, biking, and traveling with his family. He and his wife Erin have two children at home, and a third that is married with two young children of their own.
Brian Baas, PT
Brian also graduated from Fresno State University in 1992 and has been providing patient care, practice management, and clinical development since. Brian is also taking an administrative and leadership role for Baas Physical Therapy as well as providing patient care. Brian is the CFO and co-developer/co-owner of Western Physical Therapy, Inc., a growing organization of outpatient physical therapy practices. He is involved in community outreaches, has served as Anderson High Schools athletic team therapist, and enjoys developing physical therapy programs. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his two daughters, playing basketball, golfing, wake-surfing, and cycling.
Garret Gheen, MPT
Garret received his Master's degree in Physical Therapy and his Bachelor's in Health Science from Loma Linda University in 2004. Garret started his career in Southern California, developing new courses and curriculum for some of the latest physical therapy techniques before moving to the Redding area with his young family in 2007. He specializes in outpatient orthopedics and neck/back rehabilitation and has developed programs for total joint rehabilitation as well as a vestibular (dizziness) rehabilitation program. Garret also is an Orthopedic Clinical Specialist, certified through the American Physical Therapy Association. Garret is a devoted family man, and is active in sports and outdoor recreation including mountain biking, running, hiking, golfing, fly fishing, snowboarding, and surfing.
Ryan Troll, DPT
Ryan is originally from Pullman, Washington where he received a Bachelor of Kinesiology degree at Washington State University. He went on to earn his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Missouri. Ryan has most experience with outpatient orthopedic care, but is knowledgeable in care for vestibular and neurological disorders, pediatrics, and cardio-pulmonary conditions. He welcomes the opportunity to serve the surrounding community as Lead Physical Therapist of Baas Physical Therapy, as he is very personable and loves helping people accomplish their goals. In his free time, Ryan enjoys anything outdoors, playing sports, and spending time with his family.
Shauna Leeds, PT, DPT
Shauna is from Rapid City, South Dakota. She attended Black Hills State University and received her Bachelor of Science in Biology in 2010, before continuing on to the University of South Dakota where she earned her Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2013.
After school, she worked at a small hospital in South Dakota where she treated patients with various conditions including orthopedic, neurological, and wound care in the outpatient, inpatient, and long term care settings. Through her experience, she learned to love the outpatient setting and the variety it offers.
In 2017, Shauna moved to Chico and worked at two of our sister clinics, Parkside Physical Therapy and Willows Physical Therapy, before relocating to Redding with her husband in 2020. At Baas Physical Therapy, she enjoys getting to work with patients and help develop a treatment plan that is best for them and their individual needs. In her spare time, Shauna likes to hike, explore Northern California, and spend time with her family.
Michelle Leavell-Penn, PTA
Michelle graduated from Holistic Institute of Berkley for Massage Therapy in 1985 and developed her own private practice from 1992 to 2016. She furthered her education at Coleman College in Houston Texas, graduating from an Accredited Physical Therapist Assistant Program and receiving her license in 2007. She went on to specialize in Aquatic Therapy Certificates at the Aquatic Therapy Rehab Institute, and has over 5 years of experience in Aquatic Orthopedic care, with an emphasis on core and lumbar stability. Michelle is dedicated to providing special care to each individual patient, and to providing a fun atmosphere while educating patients and assisting in reaching therapy goals. Michelle is a certified scuba diver and also enjoys camping, hiking, biking, horseback riding, kayaking, sailing, snorkeling, and singing in the choir at church.
Emily Harvey, PTA
Emily is excited to return to Baas Physical Therapy, where she began as a PT Tech in 2016. She grew up in the Redding area, completed her general education at Shasta College, and continued her education at San Diego Mesa College, where she graduated with honors from the Accredited Physical Therapist Assistant Program in 2019. Emily has clinical experience in the outpatient orthopedic setting, with a focus on aquatic therapy.
Emily loves spending time with her family and friends enjoying the year round outdoor activities that Northern California has to offer. Some of her favorite activities include camping, hiking, biking, wakeboarding, and snowboarding. Emily is also a sports fan. She played collegiate softball and now that she has graduated, she enjoys the opportunity to coach both volleyball and softball in our local community.
Michelle, PT Tech
Michelle was born in the Bay Area but grew up in Dunsmuir. Her family moved to Northern California after her dad got out of the Navy. Michelle went to college at National Holistic Institute & UCSF in the Bay Area and earned her Bachelor's of Science Degree in Health and Alternative Human Resources as well as her National Certification in Massage Therapy. Michelle has worked in various healthcare fields for the past 26 years - Chiropractic, Rehabilitation, Caregiving, Physical Therapy and Massage Therapy. Michelle joined our team in January 2020 as an aqua physical therapy technician and absolutely loves it! She has the opportunity to utilize her knowledge of exercise and fitness, and finds it very rewarding to see our patients get well and improve their overall health, wellness and mobility. Michelle is a huge fitness fan and lives a very active healthy lifestyle. She counts weightlifting and CrossFit as some of her favorite types of exercise - she likes to lift heavy stuff for fun! Michelle's other hobbies include hiking, swimming, anything outdoors in nature, crafts, photography and reading. She is very involved in the local Northern California Veterans Community and volunteers at the Northern California Veterans Museum & Heritage Center in Anderson.
Anneliese, PT Tech
Anneliese was born in Chico and has lived in Northern California since then. She graduated from Shasta College in May 2020 with her Associate's in Allied Health, and her goal is to gain more experience in the physical therapy field as a tech before starting a PTA program in 2021. At Baas Physical Therapy, Anneliese loves working with and talking to the patients, learning about their exercises right along with them! In her spare time, she enjoys hanging out with her family and friends, reading, and going on random adventures.
Brittany, Scheduling Coordinator, Front Desk Receptionist
Brittany is originally from the Bay Area but moved to Redding with family in her early teens. She is currently working toward her Psychology Degree with a Minor in Behavioral Sciences. Brittany has 10 years' experience in the medical field, and loves interacting with our patients making their appointments as safe, comfortable, and enjoyable as possible. In her free time, Brittany likes keeping active with her dog and spending time with family and friends, as well as reading, doing yoga, hiking, fishing, and horseback riding.
Arnica, Insurance Coordinator, Front Desk Receptionist
Arnica is from Los Angeles and recently moved to Redding. She graduated from North West College in 2004 as a Medical Assistant and has been in the Medical Field for the last 15 years. Arnica's primary job at Baas Physical Therapy is to verify patients' insurance, answer any insurance questions, and submit authorization for continued treatment as necessary. When she is not working, Arnica enjoys cooking, reading, and hiking with her son.
